Wow, I wasn't aware the Golden Globes were a "sham" or that the HFPA were "bogus." Thanks for that insight.
Meanwhile, be sure to polish up that Mensch of the Year Award from... who was that again?
At any rate, I'm sure your award is much more of an accomplishment than Best Adapted Screenplay. Be sure to look down upon the Coen Brothers for their useless brass bauble when No Country picks up a few trophys on the televised broadcast.
Given the latest news, I'm now fairly certain that the Golden Globe ceremony will not be televised. Unless the TV and film celebrities that are the real juice of that show are willing to cross picket lines, the ceremony will not have much to attract it. And my understanding is that the Beverly Hilton event will be picketed whether it is televised or not, partly to make sure that it is not taped for airing, say a week later. While the Oscars will definitely go on no matter what, I don't know that the Golden Globes will. Ever since the Pia Zadora incident, I've never really given much credence to the Globes, to be honest, so I don't know that the presence or non-presence of them will make a big difference.
This is not to denigrate the performers and artists who would have been receiving awards, like the Coen brothers or Spielberg. And I'm sure the Coen brothers are looking at a nomination from the Academy as well. (Personally, I'd love to see Chris Cooper get a nomination for BREACH, but I don't know that enough people saw that film)
As for Nikki Finke, she has once again changed her post as soon as the wind changed. Her original posting about the HFPA was breathlessly announcing that the Globes would go on and that a contract was under discussion. (And once you actually read the HFPA release, it's clear that they were the ones trying to get that story out.) As soon as the WGA put their statement online, Nikki changed her post to read that the HFPA was "grovelling" and would "humiliate themselves". Or maybe my eyes just failed me when I glanced past the earlier post.
Her award from the New York Observer really only indicates that they know as little about what goes on out here as she does.
