What Nikki Finke did was a cheap shot, pure and simple. Shonda sent a Christmas card to both of her crews. It was a simple note expressing her worry about the whole situation and her hope that we'll be working together soon. That's all. It wasn't a public statement. It was between Shonda and us. Not a big deal. As somebody noted, it was mailed out to everyone on the 24th and arrived on the 26th. Big deal. At the same time, the crews of both of Shonda's shows received gifts from the casts and from the producers of both shows.
Nikki got sent a note from one of the crew members who got the card, and then posted Shonda's card on her blog. That was already a pretty tacky move. Then she adds the cute line that no money was included in the envelope, and crosses the line into utter tastelessness. Then when she gets called on it by several posters, who tell her that was below the belt, she edits her original post to credit the money observation to the crew member who leaked the note. Really nasty stuff, and really typical of Nikki Finke.
This kind of thing convinces me that Nikki Finke is simply using this situation to further her own career, and she'll take any cheap shot she can to do that. She is certainly anti-mogul, as she has made clear for YEARS. But that doesn't make her pro-writer. Yes, she posts the "Speechless" videos and the "Why We Write" blurbs, along with the latest rumors from the WGA side of the situation. But that isn't to promote the WGA - it's to embarass and snipe at the moguls.
Finke has demonstrated that she will turn on the writers at her first opportunity - by slamming Leno and the others for returning to work even after they were paying their crews' salaries for two months out of their own pockets, and now by taking a poke at Shonda.
This blog is intended to be an unmoderated forum for stories aggregated from around the web.
We will not repost stories from other sites, but we will post headlines as they come up. We are posting headlines manually, so there may be a delay (in some cases, a substantial delay) between when a story is first posted on it's original site, and when a forum for it opens here.
In some cases, multiple stories will appear on one or more websites, but carry a similar theme. In that case, we will generally group them together.
Please note that the point of this blog is not to take over forums from elsewhere, but rather to allow quick, unmoderated posting to continue.
We encourage you to continue posting to the original sites (and feel free to repost here).
We're doing this on an experimental basis. I look forward to everyone's input, as well as best behavior. If this turns into a giant flame-fest, we'll just shut it down.

Nikki concludes the post with a line that there was no check in the letter.
It was an odd little commentary...

This was clearly supposed to be a private message *of support* from Shonda to her crew. That's pretty low of Nikki.

As I mentioned in an earlier post on my blog, Nikki's editorials and comment moderation have been all over the map.
For the most part, she is extremely pro-writer, but then posts that little nugget.
I think it's safe to say that Nikki isn't so much pro-writer as she is pro-controversy. Even if the controversy is of her own making.
